I am your average professor,

still learning daily

new thoughts,

new technology, adventure

including also

philosophy, life planning, gardening

and

making my own dream project

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sir ! What classes do you teach?
Alok Sir :
For four years now I have been teaching
Thermodynamics,

Workshop Technology,

Production Engineering,

for freshman students

majoring in the engineering.

I am also teaching

Industrial Management,

Energy Resources & Utilization,

Power Plant Engineering.

mainly

to final year B.E. students.

This year I am also teaching

Nuclear Engineering for the first time,

which is for students majoring in something other than science.

Do you have a favorite?

Alok Sir : I do not think I can say I have a favourite.

Each level of these classes satisfies a different part of me.

Do you have a specific lecture style?
Alok Sir : I definitely have a certain lecture style.
I emphasize conceptual understanding rather than mechanical memorization.

To that end, I try to attract the type of students to join my classes

who are willing to do the "Mechanical walk" in order to

understand the mystery of our universe and

feel the joy that results from such understanding and appreciation.

I encourage the students who join my classes to participate in a Socratic dialog.

In a Socratic dialog, the "teacher" never answers the question directly.

Instead of giving an answer to the student's question,

the teacher replies with a question until the student sees the answer him/herself,

until the answer comes from the teacher who lives within the student,

until the student becomes the teacher him/herself.

What are your research or other scientific interests?
Alok Sir : During the last several years,

my research has been more towards better methods of teaching

and writing in science & technology and in general,

how students can be more successful in maintaining

sustainable happiness and real personal growth.

To that end, with the help of one of my past students,

Shankar, Nidhi,Neha,Archana,Akanksha,Rina

there is now a website with a lot of material related to

"Success in College and After College"

" How to Get and Stay on Course "

In addition,

I am starting to teach a freshman in seminar with the above title every quarter.

That seminar grow out of informal lectures

I used to give every quarter on important topic.

My other scientific interests are in green chemistry, energy & environment etc…...

How did you get interested in life planning?
Alok Sir : That is a good question.

I feel I could write a series of books on the subject.

As always is the case, any one of us suddenly can become a living spring of water

from his/her life experiences.

In my case, I always liked teaching and learning.

I knew that from my first college years.

But life circumstances caused me to drift away to work

in various other work environments related to chemistry.

Being so thirsty for expression and the discovery of human nature,

I could not take being away from an academic teaching environment anymore.

The issue became an issue of life and death; it was so strong.

So I suddenly started on the new path by choosing to leave
a very high-paying permanent position
to take several temporary very low-paying positions.

I know it sounds crazy but it happened, and it had a great impact

on all the members of my family.

I was very lucky to have the full support of my family.

What advice would you give a student on how best to choose a good career?
Alok Sir : I would like to keep this answer short so anyone
who reads this will always remember it,

No Pain, No Gain

It is not without pain that we come to know who we are.

By finding out who we are more every day, it is possible to "do" what we are.

And by doing what we are, we are definitely home,

gravitating effortlessly towards total success.

Unfortunately, to have total success in life, inwardly and outwardly,

a high GPA is not enough.

To do what we love is very important but it still is not enough.

Only if your personality type matches with what you are doing, where, how,

when and with whom, then real success is within your reach.

Therefore, I say to my students that if you want to be a success, know who you are.

Do you have any hobbies?
Alok Sir :
Yes, I have several hobbies. I love taking walks and spending time in nature.

To that effect, I have gardens not only at my house

but also at the our College provided by the Management.

I encourage my students to get gardens so they can recalibrate themselves

after studying and feel good about themselves.

Some of them have responded.

It is a great pleasure to meet them at the gardens and see them working

with the soil and the plants.

If you go to my personal website: http://eralokkumar.blogspot.com/

you will see several pictures of some of my hobbies.

I also started to take a class on how to develop yourself with new thoughts

and now I am making it from all natural components.

In order to encourage my students to have hobbies,

I thought of the "Natural Telent Award," as I call it.

For each class I teach, at the end, the student with the highest score

gets a handy Gifts selected by me.

When they come to me to pick up their award,

while I am carving the "life curve" on it,

I have the opportunity to tell them face to face

how important it is to know themselves.

I consider it very important especially for the students with high GPAs

to be balanced in life.

After all, most of them will end up in leadership positions and

many people will be affected by their decisions.

We must prepare these students the best way we can.

I stress the fact that doing their work right would not be enough

without considering the well being of others and our environment.

Who is your favorite scientist?
Alok Sir :

Albert Einstein is my favorite scientist,

not only because of his bringing truth to science but because of his excellent personality and life values that perhaps most people are not aware of.

Another reason is because of the way he spoke about our favorite person, Gandhi.

"Generations to come will scarce believe that such a one

as this walked the earth in flesh and blood,"

- Albert Einstein, in regard to Mohandas Gandhi.

Do you have a favorite quote?
Alok Sir :

"You Must Be The Change You Wish To See In The World," -
Mohandas Gandhi.

Teacher Resume Tips

A Teacher resume should be a brief written document which provides principals with as much evidence as you can give them that you will be a good teacher. The strongest evidence of potential to teach is experience with children or teens. In addition, any"real world"experiences with mathematics or science may be of interest to the reader.

If you are a beginning teacher, your resume should not be more than one page. If you have two or more years' experience in the classroom, you may need two pages to adequately convey your experiences and contributions to the classroom and school.

Four required elements in teacher resume

Identification : Include your name, address, phone, and email address. Your name should be in the biggest print on the page, three or four sizes bigger than the other print.
Certification : List your certification and any endorsements, and the date."Illinois Initial Secondary Certificate in Mathematics, expected December 2001. Endorsement expected in Middle Grade Mathematics."Once you have your certificate, delete the date and list the certificate number instead, for instance : #1234567.
Teaching Experience : Use the list of action verbs located on the left of this page to describe your experiences in the classroom. They especially like to read about your classroom management skills/strategies, the teaching methods you use, any experience with students with special needs, and interactions with parents. Include job title, where you did this activity, and when (Student Teacher, DuSable High School, Spring 2001.)
Related Experience : This is where you list paid or unpaid work which gave you experiences which will help you be a better teacher--camp counselor, tutor, etc. You can also list science- or math-related employment in this section.
Other Optional Elements

The rest of your teacher resume can include any of the following elements. Again, choose those which sell you as a teacher the best.

Work experience not related to teaching, science or math : This element is optional because your teaching experience is what interests principals and other hiring authorities the most. List these jobs in reverse chronological order.
Career Objective : This is a statement of what kind of job you're seeking. ("To obtain an Math position in a secondary school with the opportunity to coach softball, track or swimming.") Don't get too flowery or trite; e.g.,"seeking a challenging position"--aren't all teaching jobs challenging?
Honors and Activities : If you have some impressive honors (Dean's list, Phi Delta Kappa, any scholarships or achievement awards), or activities which relate to teaching, you can list them.
Special Skills : Fluency or proficiency in foreign languages, use of graphing calculators or mathematics software, etc.
Professional Preparation/Development : Special workshops, seminars, etc. you've attended.
Professional Memberships : List those professional associations to which you belong. Include any leadership positions or committee memberships. (e.g., National Science Teachers Association)
Consider the following when you are developing your resume :

Your uniqueness as a teacher or your positive trends as a teacher.
Techniques developed to teach a particular lesson.
Contribution to any special event for the class/entire school.
Common buzz words to look for include :

cooperative learning process writing collaboration
MAG or multi-age grouping inclusion Chicago Math
literature based foundation curriculum whole language houses
manipulatives hands-on team teaching

Remember, your resume will only get a few seconds attention, at best! You have to generate interest right away, in the first sentence they lay their eyes on. Having an objective statement that really sizzles is highly effective.

Resume Writing Guide

Writing A Resume

Writing a resume is easier said than done. There are many things you need to keep in mind while writing resume like what format should you use, whow to frame the right object to suite new job's description. You need to create a resume that actually generates results.

What is a resume ?

Resume is a self-promotional document that presents you in the best possible light, for the purpose of getting invited to a job interview. It's not an official personnel document. It's not a job application. It's not a "career obituary"! And it's not a confessional.

What should the resume content be about ?

It's not just about past jobs! It's about YOU, and how you performed and what you accomplished in those past jobs--especially those accomplishments that are most relevant to the work you want to do next. A good resume predicts how you might perform in that desired future job.

Why your resume is important ?

It's the first meeting between you and a prospective employer. First impressions are lasting ones. Well, your resume is the first meeting between you and a prospective employer more often now than ever. So, how do you want to be remembered? Wrinkled and unorganized or Neat and structured. Long and boring or Precise and interesting.

Main purpose of resume writing

Your resume is a tool with one specific purpose: to win an interview. A resume is an advertisement, nothing more, nothing less. A great resume doesn't just tell them what you have done but makes the same assertion that all good ads do.

What resume writing isn't ?

It is a mistake to think of your resume as a history of your past, as a personal statement or as some sort of self ex-pression.

Focus on the employer's needs and not yours

Employer is not much interested in your needs but in company's. Ask yourself, what would make a perfect candidate for this job. What does the employer really want and need? What special abilities would this person have? What would set a truly exceptional candidate apart from a merely good one ?

Great resumes has two sections

In the first, you make assertions about your abilities, qualities and achievements. You write powerful, but honest, advertising copy that makes the reader immediately perk up and realize that you are someone special.

The second section, the evidence section, is where you back up your assertions with evidence that you actually did what you said you did. This is where you list and describe the jobs you have held, your education, etc.

Objective of Resume Writing

Your resume should be pointed toward conveying why you are the perfect candidate for one specific objective or job title. Good advertising is directed toward a very specific objective.
